A good first line will make me want to read more, but I've also had books with bad first pages, but the story was enough that I pushed on despite the crappy beginning.

Yes, the first line is important, but as you said it, we don't know the story just yet as we start to write it, so with every story I go back and write that first like the last when I do know the story inside and out so if it didn't pop right away, don't despair, nothing is done till you click that publish button. And even then, things can change.
